AI Summit: Investing in Innovation and Tomorrow's Workforce
Tuesday, July 10, 2018
U.S. Chamber of Commerce

On July 10, BSA sponsored an AI Summit with the Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC. The event explored two key areas: the role of R&D in spurring AI innovation and efforts to prepare the US workforce for the jobs of the future. After opening remarks from C_TEC’s Tim Day, Victoria Espinel, President and CEO of BSA, interviewed Michael Kratsios, Deputy Assistant to the President for Technology. Kratsios emphasized that AI benefits every industry and that the US must focus on R&D, the workforce, and removing barriers to innovation in order to remain a leader in AI.

The event featured two panel discussions on AI. The first, on AI research and the role of academia, government, and the private sector, included David Cox from IBM, Elsa Kania from the Center for a New American Security, and James Kurose from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. The second, on preparing the workforce for the future, included Portia Wu from Microsoft, Neil Jensen from Workday, Matt Etchison from Ivy Tech, and Cameron Wilson from Code.org, moderated by BSA’s Shaundra Watson.
