BSA Statement on Senate Democrats’ Privacy and Data Protection Framework
WASHINGTON – November 18, 2019 – BSA | The Software Alliance offered the following statement on today’s release of the Privacy and Data Protection Framework by Senators Maria Cantwell, Dianne Feinstein, Sherrod Brown, and Patty Murray.
“Consumers shouldn’t be surprised by how their data is used,” said Craig Albright, Vice President, Legislative Strategy at BSA | The Software Alliance. “We agree with Senators Cantwell, Feinstein, Brown, and Murray that comprehensive federal legislation is needed to protect consumers’ privacy. Likewise, we believe that strong, consistent enforcement of privacy rights at the federal and state level is a crucial piece of any privacy legislation.
“Although we don’t agree with every recommendation of the Privacy and Data Protection Framework, creating a high-quality federal privacy standard remains a top priority for BSA,” he continued. “Everyone should have the right to know and control how their data is used. We look forward to working with Congress to ensure that consumer rights are protected under federal law.”
