BSA Welcomes Introduction of Consumer Data Privacy and Security Act
WASHINGTON – March 12, 2020 – BSA | The Software Alliance applauds today’s introduction of the Consumer Data Privacy and Security Act by Senator Jerry Moran. This legislation is an important step forward in the ongoing debate on protecting consumer privacy.
“BSA companies support strong privacy legislation because consumers should be able to trust that their data is being used responsibly,” said Craig Albright, Vice President, Legislative Strategy at BSA | The Software Alliance. “We applaud Senator Moran for introducing a thoughtful, comprehensive bill that deserves serious consideration as Congress moves forward to establish a new federal privacy law. We’re pleased Senator Moran’s bill distinguishes between businesses that control data and businesses that process that data on behalf of other companies. This distinction is key to safeguarding consumer privacy without creating new security risks. We look forward to working with the Senate Commerce Committee and others as they build toward bipartisan legislation to create clear, modern protections for consumer privacy.”
