BSA Statement on House Passage of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2020
WASHINGTON – June 25, 2020 – There is a renewed and immediate need to address systemic issues of racial inequality within the United States. BSA | The Software Alliance applauds the US House of Representatives for its critical work on HR 7120, the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2020. BSA also commends Republican and Democratic Senators and Representatives for introducing valuable proposals and urges both Chambers to continue to work to pass meaningful legislation to end systemic racism in policing. BSA unequivocally condemns the racism and inequality that grips the United States and calls on Congress to work with all speed and in a bipartisan manner to make true and accountable progress on this crucial issue.
“America, along with other countries, is experiencing an historic moment and a long overdue outpouring of support for social and racial justice. We must seize this moment and act,” said Victoria Espinel, President and CEO of BSA | The Software Alliance. “BSA is committed to fostering a society that values and actively promotes diversity and equality. One thing we must pursue with urgency is to reckon with necessary changes to the United States’ model of policing. We encourage both parties to work together to achieve concrete and meaningful change.”
