BSA Applauds Introduction of Singapore Copyright Bill
SINGAPORE – July 7, 2021 – BSA | The Software Alliance welcomes the Ministry of Law and Intellectual Property Office of Singapore’s introduction of the Singapore Copyright Bill, which includes a broad exception for “computational data analysis” that is intended to facilitate machine learning and text-and-data-mining.
"Modernized copyright laws are key to spur AI innovation and development," said Jared Ragland, Senior Director, Policy – APAC at BSA. “The Ministry of Law and Intellectual Property Office of Singapore’s proposal is one of the strongest exceptions of its kind and will ensure that researchers in Singapore can compete with their counterparts in other leading AI nations. We applaud the introduction of this forward-looking Bill and encourage Singapore’s Parliament to move quickly to pass and enact this legislation. BSA stands ready to collaborate with Singapore and other leaders around the world to enact sound data innovation policies.”
