BSA Statement on Ranking Member McMorris Rodgers’ Draft Privacy Legislation
WASHINGTON – November 3, 2021 – BSA | The Software Alliance offered the following statement on Ranking Member Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ draft consumer privacy bill.
“Americans deserve transparency, clarity, and confidence in how their data is used and protected. We commend Ranking Member McMorris Rodgers and the Republican Members of the Subcommittee for taking this step. This is yet another sign of the widespread bipartisan support in Congress for passing comprehensive federal privacy legislation,” said Craig Albright, Vice President, Legislative Strategy at BSA. “We look forward to working with these Members to build on this draft bill. In order to effectively protect consumers and offer clarity for how they can exercise their privacy rights, privacy legislation should establish strong obligations on businesses that are specific to the different roles they play in handling consumers’ personal data. We will continue to work with Democrats and Republicans in the House and Senate to help pass bipartisan legislation into law.”
