BSA Looks Forward to Continued Improvements in 2023 DPDP Bill Rulemaking
Venkatesh Krishnamoorthy, Country Manager – India, BSA | The Software Alliance issued the following statement following the passage of the 2023 Digital Personal Data Protection Bill by both Houses of Indian Parliament:
“BSA | The Software Alliance welcomes the significant improvements made in recent years to the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill 2023 (DPDP Bill), which was passed by both Houses of Indian Parliament.
The Government of India has worked to improve the DPDP Bill throughout the past five years, and has crafted more effective privacy legislation to protect and safeguard consumers’ personal data. In particular, the removal of data localization provisions and the DPDP Bill’s support for cross-border data transfers will help India achieve its goal of fostering a $1 trillion digital economy by 2026.
BSA looks forward to working with Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Government of India in the rule-making process to implement the Bill in a manner that best supports comprehensive data privacy protections for all citizens of India.”
