BSA Raises Concerns Over California System Training Bill

Besides SB 1047, the California Legislature advanced several other AI-related bills. Lawmakers passed AB 2013 — a transparency bill that would require generative AI developers to post summaries of its training data — on Aug. 28.
BSA | The Software Alliance raised concerns over AB 2013 after its passage last week. Heather Curry, senior director of state advocacy at BSA, said in a statement that the legislation could “disincentivize companies to train systems on a broader set of data, which helps to protect against bias, and impose reporting requirements that go well beyond current laws, including those in the European Union.” Curry also raised concerns about the bill’s requirement for developers to share documentation about how their systems are trained.
