BSA Launches Campaign Against California AB 1018
Politico Pro Technology California Decoded
By Christine Mui and Chase Difeliciantonio
With one bill looking to regulate automated decision-making systems already pushed to 2026, the Business Software Alliance is launching a campaign in hopes of torpedoing the second major effort to legislate in the space. “Because it’s using really loose definitions, it’s sweeping in not just high risk [uses], it's sweeping in low risk, mundane uses,” Craig Albright, the BSA's senior vice president for U.S. government relations, told Decoded. The alliance plans to push a targeted LinkedIn ad to tech and policy players in Sacramento and the Bay Area in an effort to prevent the bill from becoming law, or even passing out of the second house where it recently cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee.
