BSA SVP US Government Relations Craig Albright Warns Government Shutdown Stalls Key Tech Legislation

“Governing by crisis takes up all the oxygen,” Craig Albright, the Business Software Alliance senior vice president for U.S. government relations, said. “Passing technology bills is not a crisis issue. It’s something you do when you have time because you don’t have to be in crisis mode.”
Albright noted that the shutdown will likely slow down efforts on privacy and kids’ safety bills at the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and also artificial intelligence legislation at the Senate Commerce panel.

“We really hope that those will not get slowed down, because resolving those issues could be a great benefit to technology and to the economy,” Albright said.
