BSA: Europe’s Cloud Forecast Shows Improving Visibility
BRUSSELS — The Business Software Alliance (BSA) welcomes the TTE Council’s conclusions’ section “Reinforcing digital sovereignty in an open manner”, a move that reflects a more practical, risk-focused approach to Europe’s digital governance. The direction taken today aligns with BSA’s longstanding position that strong international standards, clear safeguards, and an open and resilient cloud ecosystem are essential to European digital sovereignty.
BSA particularly welcomes that the approach taken relies on both competitiveness and a strong and well-functioning single market and “open strategic global collaboration”. For BSA, this approach echoes the principles set out in Keeping the Door Open: The EU’s Path to Digital Sovereignty: sovereignty built through openness, capability, accountability, and trust, rather than restricting access to world-class technologies.
“The call for a balanced and open approach to digital sovereignty shows that Europe can raise the bar on security and governance while keeping its digital economy open and innovative,” said Thomas Boué, Director General, Policy — EMEA. “It’s a constructive step, and one that strengthens Europe’s confidence in the cloud services it depends on.”
BSA looks forward to supporting policymakers with the upcoming Cloud and AI Development Act and ensuring they deliver a cloud environment that is secure, competitive, and future-ready.
