The Future of Transatlantic Trade: Building an Integrated Transatlantic Marketplace
On April 10, BSA President and CEO Victoria Espinel spoke at a high-level conference in Paris on the future of transatlantic trade. Sponsored by BSA, this one-day event co-hosted by The Washington Post and European Voice, featured Karel De Gucht, European Commissioner for Trade, and Michael Punke, Deputy US Trade Representative and US Ambassador to the WTO, as well as executives from companies including General Electric, Microsoft, Google, Total and more.
Espinel highlighted the transformation occurring in the software industry as it emerges as a digital services industry delivering cloud and data analytics – key drivers for future growth and competitiveness. She also underscored the importance of modernizing trade rules for digital goods and services, and encouraged the US and EU to lead the way in establishing model rules in the Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership (TTIP) that will enable digital trade.
