BSA | The Software Alliance Calls On Congress to Pass TPP this Year
WASHINGTON — September 13, 2016 — Pointing to the importance of new technology trade rules for the US economy, BSA | The Software Alliance is urging Congress and the Administration to reach an agreement that would allow passage of the multilateral Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement this year.
In a joint letter with 12 other technology trade associations, BSA urges Congress to work with the Administration and intensify their focus on the passage of TPP in 2016. The agreement will create jobs in the tech sector and boost the entire US economy. Importantly, TPP will, keep borders open to the free flow of data, prohibit data localization requirements and reduce other barriers to digital trade. This is an historic opportunity to codify US values of a free and open Internet and demonstrate that the US remains unambiguously committed to free trade and to strong leadership in the Asia-Pacific region.
