BSA | The Software Alliance Statement on Burr-Feinstein Draft Encryption Bill
“We have serious concerns with the proposal released today because it effectively puts limits on data security and we are concerned it would ultimately undermine security, innovation, and public safety,” BSA President and CEO Victoria Espinel said. “We appreciate the work by Senators Burr and Feinstein in putting forward an actual proposal, but we believe this bill would stunt the development and use of security technologies such as encryption, both today and into the future.”
“We strongly support the needs of law enforcement. Security tools are indispensable for protecting data and preventing cybercrimes. We strongly urge Congress to engage in a broad dialogue so that, together, we can develop a policy that both allows users the strongest cyber protection and ensures law enforcement has the tools it needs to keep us safe.”
