Tech Firms Hope a 'New' NAFTA Will Help Set Rules on Digital Trade

“We exist in this situation where we have an enormously important part of the U.S. economy and the global economy that is reliant on digital trade and on the data economy, but there is no trade rules to govern them,” Victoria Espinel, president and CEO of BSA | The Software Alliance, said in an interview. “That is a significant gap in the international legal framework. So for us, NAFTA is a great opportunity to set the precedent that doesn’t exist today.”
