BSA Applauds Markup of USA Telecommunications Act
WASHINGTON – July 15, 2020 – BSA | The Software Alliance commends the House Committee on Energy and Commerce’s markup of the Utilizing Strategic Allied Telecommunications Act of 2020 (HR 6624), introduced by Representatives Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Greg Walden (R-OR), Doris Matsui (D-CA), and Brett Guthrie (R-KY). This timely bill would work through the National Telecommunications and Information Administration to promote technology that will enhance competition in the supply chains of Open RAN 5G networks, speed the deployment of Open Network equipment, and promote the inclusion of security features that enhance the integrity and availability of such equipment.
“5G is poised to fundamentally change the tech ecosystem. Virtualized radio access network technologies with open interfaces are a promising way to support emerging 5G technologies and networks while prioritizing security,” said Tommy Ross, Senior Director, Policy at BSA | The Software Alliance. “The USA Telecommunications Act is an important step towards investing in the development and rapid deployment of Open RAN technologies to improve functionality while enabling a broad, vibrant, and trustworthy supply chain.”
