BSA and Global Data Alliance Applaud ANPD Directors’ Senate Confirmation

SÃO PAULO– October 20, 2020 – BSA | The Software Alliance and the Global Data Alliance congratulate Waldemar Gonçalves Ortunho Junior, Arthur Pereira Sabbat, Joacil Basilio Rael, Miriam Wimmer, and Nairane Farias Rabelo Leitão on being confirmed by the Brazilian Senate to serve on the inaugural Board of Directors of the Brazilian National Data Protection Authority (ANPD). According to the Brazilian Personal Data Protection Law (LGPD), ANPD’s important portfolio includes promoting awareness of personal data protection legislation and best practices and issuing guidance and regulations to implement various provisions of the LGPD, including those on international data transfers.

“The ANPD will play a critical role in advancing personal data protection in Brazil and coordinating efforts with a multitude of stakeholders from the public and private sectors in Brazil and abroad,” said Antonio Eduardo Mendes Da Silva, Country Manager – Brazil at BSA | The Software Alliance. “Practices and regulations that foster the responsible treatment of personal data are paramount to the continued promotion of trust in the global digital economy, of which Brazil is a key participant. BSA and the Global Data Alliance stand ready to contribute to ANPD’s important efforts.”
