Global Data Alliance Welcomes Strong Focus on Data Flows in UK National Data Strategy

BRUSSELS – December 7, 2020 – In comments submitted today on the UK National Data Strategy, the Global Data Alliance welcomed the UK’s focus on maintaining a pro-growth, trusted data regime and championing international data flows. These two objectives are foundational to today’s digital economy and to COVID-19 recovery.

“With the continuing adoption of digital and data-driven technologies across every sector of the economy, maintaining trust and enabling cross-border data flows should be integral parts of the UK National Data Strategy, building on existing policies,” said Isabelle Roccia, Senior Manager, Policy – EMEA at BSA | The Software Alliance. “The UK should also preserve existing transfer mechanisms that are critical to supporting global data flows and are built with strong safeguards.”

“As it further reflects on its international transfer regime post-Brexit, the UK could seize this opportunity to facilitate companies’ cross-border growth and integration into global supply chains by promoting international convergence and interoperability of privacy frameworks across the world,” Roccia added.
