BSA Applauds Passage of FY2021 NDAA
WASHINGTON – December 11, 2020 – BSA | The Software Alliance welcomes the passage of the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (FY21 NDAA). The final bill includes key provisions to strengthen cybersecurity, boost US leadership on AI, build the next generation of cybersecurity professionals, and improve the US Department of Defense’s ability to access innovative and secure software.
“Today’s passage of the NDAA is an important achievement that will strengthen America’s global leadership in the development of cybersecurity and AI policy. We’re especially glad to see that the bill includes language directing the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop an AI Risk Management Framework. NIST is a proven leader at bringing together diverse stakeholders to drive consensus around risk management frameworks that promote trust and enhance innovation. We look forward to working with them on the development of the AI framework,” said Craig Albright, Vice President of Legislative Strategy at BSA | The Software Alliance. “We’re also pleased that the final NDAA includes a provision to establish a National Cyber Director within the Executive Office of the President. This position will help establish strong, coordinated government cybersecurity leadership. BSA looks forward to working with Congress and the Administration as they finalize this bill into law.”
