WASHINGTON – After the introduction of the Algorithmic Accountability Act of 2023 by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY), Craig Albright, Vice President, US Government Relations at BSA | The Software Alliance issued the following statement:

“The Algorithmic Accountability Act rightly focuses on high-risk uses of artificial intelligence and would require the use of crucial accountability mechanisms like impact assessments as a means for addressing AI risks. Requiring impact assessments for high-risk AI is the right overall approach, but BSA has concerns about how workable this legislation would be in practice.

Enterprise software companies support an approach to AI regulation that sets clear rules that reflect the unique roles of both developers and deployers of artificial intelligence systems. Promoting the adoption of AI and furthering the digital transformation of our economy requires clear rules that ensure its responsible development and deployment. We look forward to working with the bill sponsors and other leaders in Congress to develop legislation that sets strong national rules for responsible AI, which will support its broad-based adoption."
