BSA: First Annual Review Shows Progress of EU-US Data Privacy Framework
BRUSSELS – The review, jointly conducted by European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders and US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, highlighted the commitment of the EU and the US to maintaining high data privacy standards, and made clear that the agreement has strengthened privacy protections in Europe and the United States, while facilitating critically important transatlantic data transfers.
Thomas Boué, Director General – Policy EMEA, stated:
"The EU-US Data Privacy Framework is one step forward for the modern digital economy, ensuring safe and legal data flows that benefit both privacy and innovation and impact millions of citizens. We commend the leadership of the EU and US in advancing this significant initiative."
Aaron Cooper, Senior Vice President, Global Policy, added:
“Secure and trusted EU-US data flows are essential for industries in all sectors and companies of all sizes to compete and create jobs on both sides of the Atlantic. They are also a crucial element in improving cybersecurity and resiliency. Secretary Raimondo, Commissioner Reynders, and their respective teams have done tremendous work demonstrating that data protection and innovation advance together.”
The European Commission is expected to publish a comprehensive report on the review's findings later this year.
