A leading tech trade group is out with new guidance for government agencies concerned about how to gird their networks for the arrival of encryption-cracking post-quantum computers.
In a two-page fact sheet out Wednesday, BSA | The Software Alliance outlines six steps governments should take to prepare for the coming quantum age, which is expected to render many modern encryption systems obsolete.
“Quantum computing will deliver tremendous value for businesses and the public, but we need to take action now to account for its security implications,” BSA Senior Director of Policy Henry Young told MC in a statement.
The six recommended steps are: create a post-quantum strategy, publish a roadmap to track progress, launch a public-private consortium, incentivize the private sector, boost the quantum workforce and educate the public.
