In a statement on Tuesday, Henry Young, senior director of policy at BSA | The Software Alliance, applauded NIST’s “forward-looking work” to “anticipate the digital security needs of the future.” And Gordon Bitko, executive vice president of policy at the Information Technology Industry Council, called the administration’s standards “a necessary step in safeguarding everyone’s online activities and communications with robust encryption as quantum computing becomes a reality.”
On Tuesday, BSA’s Young called on policymakers around the world to build on NIST’s work “by developing national [post-quantum cryptography] strategies, assessing government agencies’ quantum readiness, and launching a Quantum Security Institute that can work in tandem with stakeholders around the world.” Bitko said it’s important for NIST to work closely with industry “as we begin the complex and long-term process of implementing these new standards.”
