BSA Statement on Comments Filed to Department of Commerce
WASHINGTON – January 10, 2020 – BSA | The Software Alliance today filed comments to the US Department of Commerce regarding proposed regulations for Securing the Information and Communications Technology and Services Supply Chain.
Ensuring that the US technology supply chain is secure against potential threats will require thoughtful policy and close coordination between industry and government. Although BSA shares the Department’s interest in securing the supply chain, the proposed rules are both overly-broad and highly subjective. The global nature of today’s supply chain requires policies that are predictable, transparent, and aligned with international standards. BSA’s comments recommend a number of revisions to the proposed rule to ensure that it achieves its intended objectives.
BSA believes in the importance of securing the ICT supply chain and stands ready to work with the Department and other stakeholders as this process moves forward. For more information on BSA’s supply chain recommendations, read the BSA Principles for Good Governance: Supply Chain Risk Management.
