Cyber Commission Report Gets Mostly Favorable Feedback
Politico, March 12, 2020
By Tim Starks
The Cyberspace Solarium Commission’s final report won near-universal acclaim on Wednesday, although there was enough skepticism or uncertainty in some quarters to suggest the commission’s fight isn’t finished.
Industry groups including the US Chamber of Commerce, BSA | The Software Alliance and the Banking Policy Institute greeted the report warmly at least in principle, as did the non-profit Protect Our Power. The Chamber said it was still reviewing the recommendations and hinted at some possible dissent as the report makes its way through Congress: “The Chamber understands that work may not be easy, and we may have differing viewpoints.” BSA’s senior director of policy Tommy Ross had a “not everyone will like every recommendation the Commission produced” caveat, and BPI confined its praise to an industry-specific recommendation.
