BSA Urges Congress to Support Economic Recovery Initiatives in COVID-19 Relief Legislation
WASHINGTON – May 13, 2020 – BSA | The Software Alliance today sent a letter to Congress outlining the software industry’s priorities for future COVID-19 relief legislation. The letter highlighted four key areas of focus: reliable and secure access to high-speed internet, modernized government information technology, skills training, and small business access to cloud services.
“BSA thanks Members of Congress for their efforts to respond to this unprecedented global health emergency. As small businesses, students, governments, and others embrace ways to operate remotely and move the economy forward safely, the enterprise software industry is playing a critical role. BSA member companies have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic with an array of responsible initiatives and resources to provide relief and support to governments, educators, businesses, nonprofits, healthcare organizations, and communities across the globe,” said Victoria Espinel, President and CEO of BSA | The Software Alliance. “Our suggestions for upcoming relief legislation will enhance the economy’s recovery by addressing urgent needs. Access to high-speed internet, modernized IT tools for governments, skills-based training for people who have lost their jobs, and cloud-based services for small businesses are critical for COVID-19 response and in order to re-open the economy safely. We urge Congress to take these issues into consideration in any upcoming COVID-19 relief legislation.”
