Software Industry Group’s Agenda Features Interoperability for 5G Networks, ‘Comprehensive’ Privacy Legislation
Inside Cybersecurity, February 4, 2021
By Sara Friedman
BSA-The Software Alliance will be advocating for strengthening and hardening 5G networks through a standards-based, interoperable approach as a key part of its policy agenda for 2021, which outlines areas of focus where the software industry will engage with Congress and the new administration.
“The BSA Framework for Secure Software: A New Approach to Securing Software Lifecycle” should be a model for how “assurance in the software supply chain” can be secured in a manner “that is effective for how software is developed,” Craig Albright, BSA’s vice president of legislative strategy, told Inside Cybersecurity.
The software association publishes a new policy agenda annually, and Albright said the “core principles” have not changed in the past year. BSA will continue to advocate for “strong” and “enforceable” digital trade agreements, the creation of a “comprehensive” federal privacy law, and “free flow” of data across borders in 2021.
Albright said there will also be a renewed focus on creating “inclusive economic opportunity” with the creation of new jobs that “pay well” and improving access to STEM education to underserved communities.
