BSA Responds to USTR 301 Findings on China
WASHINGTON – March 22, 2018 – Today, the United States Trade Representative (USTR) released the findings of its inquiry into China’s policies and practices in relation to technology transfer, intellectual property protection, market access, and innovation.
The global software industry confronts serious challenges in these areas, and we appreciate the US Government’s attention to them. Moving forward, BSA calls on both the US and Chinese governments to engage in dialogue toward achieving mutually beneficial solutions to these challenges.
Remedies that could have significant ramifications for the trading system should be carefully considered to avoid harm to job creation in the US and innovation globally.
We call upon the US and Chinese governments to work together, avoiding counterproductive cycles of retaliatory action that threaten economic growth, to resolve the concerns identified. Their goal should be to identify solutions that improve and deepen trade relations between the world’s two largest economies.
