Software: Strengthening the UK Economy
9th of October 2018 at 8:30 a.m.
Adobe Customer Experience Centre
London

On October 9 in London, BSA hosted an event to explore how the software industry contributes to economic growth, creates jobs, and drives innovation in the UK.

In a keynote address Lord Francis Maude, Former UK Trade Minister, applauded the strong results of the UK’s software sector and explained that to ensure its continued success, data and skills are two key factors to consider. Gavin Mee, the UK Managing Director of the event’s host Adobe, said that six billion people use digital devices for customer experiences and that software helps build these experiences and drive the economic impact of the sector.

Chris Hopfensperger, Executive Director of Software.org, launched the foundation’s latest study, “The Growing €1 Trillion Economic Impact of Software,” with data and analysis from The Economist Intelligence Unit. He then joined a panel to dive into the results and discuss the future impact of software in the UK with Samantha Grenville, Global Head of Corporate Public Policy Practice & Consulting Director, North America at The Economist Intelligence Unit, Chris Taylor, Chief Information Officer at The Telegraph Media Group and Elaine Trimble, Director of Urban Infrastructure at Siemens. The panel discussed what drives the success of the UK software industry including tech hubs across the country, strong universities with ties to business, and an open economy.
