BSA Calls for AI-Related Opt-Outs in House Privacy Task Force Comments
Inside AI Policy
By Charlie Mitchell
The Business Software Alliance says consumer opt-out rights when using automated systems for “profiling” are an important component of privacy legislation, similar to numerous state-level laws, in comments to a task force established by House Energy and Commerce Republicans.
“Many of the 20 comprehensive state consumer privacy laws include rights and obligations that may affect AI, including 17 states that give consumers the right to opt out of certain types of profiling,” BSA says in an April 6 submission to Energy and Commerce Republicans.
“For example,” BSA says, “Texas allows consumers to opt out of ‘profiling’ in furtherance of decisions that produce a ‘legal or similarly significant effect.’”
