BSA Calls for Performance-Based Approach to Federal Data Security Requirements
Inside Cybersecurity
By Jacob Livesay
Data security requirements placed on industry should be performance-based and provide flexibility for managing risks in alignment with widely used standards, according to an industry coalition that submitted comments to a House GOP working group on privacy legislation.
“Organizations processing consumer data should establish, implement, and maintain reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security practices that are appropriate to the volume and nature of the data being used,” a coalition of 25 trade associations say in an April 7 letter in response to a request for information from the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Republican data privacy working group.
The coalition includes the Business Software Alliance, Consumer Technology Association, wireless group CTIA and the US Chamber of Commerce.
