BSA CEO Victoria Espinel Highlights AI Priorities and Calls for Changes to Defense Bill

The Business Software Alliance in a letter to congressional leaders identifies its artificial intelligence preferences in the House and Senate versions of the annual defense policy bill, while calling for tweaks and more significant changes in multiple areas including software security and restrictions targeting “countries of concern.”

“We greatly appreciate your leadership in advancing this legislation and urge careful attention to provisions that impact the enterprise software industry, digital modernization, and the [Defense] Department’s operational readiness,” BSA president and CEO Victoria Espinel says in the Oct. 16 letter.
“BSA represents the global enterprise software sector, whose innovations underpin U.S. competitiveness in cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, data analytics, AI, and supply chain resilience,” Espinel writes. “We are encouraged by Congress’s bipartisan recognition of the importance of leveraging commercial technology and ensuring the Department can modernize with secure, effective tools.
