A tech lobby has slammed new detailed European guidelines for how companies and organizations need to oversee their processing supply chain under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
BSA, which represents many large software and cloud-based companies like IBM, Microsoft, and SAP, said a new opinion by the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) “introduces a significant new requirement on data controllers.” The EDPB adopted this week an opinion requiring controllers (say a government or company) to obtain much more information about their processors and subprocessors (say HR software). The opinion is “unrealistic,” said Thomas Boué, BSA’s director general for EMEA policy.
