BSA Predicts Increased State AI Legislation in Place of Federal Legislation

Craig Albright, senior vice president for U.S. government relations at BSA The Software Alliance, an industry trade group, said it is unclear how AI fits into Trump’s priorities for a second term. But with Republicans in total control of Washington, Albright predicted there will be resistance to AI regulation at the federal level.
“That will certainly create incentives and pressure on states to act. But having said that, the states aren’t holding back,” Albright said. 2025 was already shaping up as a busy year for AI legislation in the states, he said.
