BSA Releases AI Heatmap "AI Policy Readiness: Global Snapshot”
Politico Pro Morning Tech
By Mallory Culhane
A week after the GOP published its 2024 platform — which would repeal the Biden administration’s AI executive order — the tech industry group BSA is out with a new comparison of AI policies across seven countries plus the G7 Hiroshima Process and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’, or ASEAN, AI Guide. The analysis is a benchmark in global AI policy as 2024 has been called the biggest election year in history.
The trade group compared how each country or institution handled a “risk-based approach to AI” along with issues like cybersecurity, workforce development and privacy. The European Union and Japan came closest to perfect.
Aaron Cooper, senior vice president of global policy at BSA, told MT that the goal was for countries and institutions to consider “important policy ingredients that go into a successful digital transformation to use of AI.”
