BSA Says EU AI Act Should Focus on High-Risk Applications
EE Times, March 31, 2023
By Ilene Wolf
BSA | The Software Alliance and other groups recently issued a joint statement on the AI Act that urges the European Parliament to maintain its risk-based approach to develop the act, clarify the definition of high-risk AI and make sure the law doesn’t overlap with or create competing obligations with existing legislation.
“We have seen many proposals that seek to include use cases of AI that are not traditionally high-risk, from general-purpose AI to image editing,” group spokesman Matteo Quattrocchi, director of policy for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at BSA The Software Alliance, told EE Times. “BSA recommends that the AI Act focuses on high-risk applications and addresses the specific concerns raised by specific use cases of AI, for example, through Article 52 mandating transparency requirements for certain kinds of AI.”
