USA Restricts the Issuance of Work Visas Until the End of the Year
Voice of America, June 22, 2020
By Alejandra Arredondo
United States President Donald Trump announced on Monday the restriction of immigration visas for many categories of foreign workers for the rest of the year, citing the economic damage caused by the coronavirus pandemic, including job losses from American workers.
After Trump restricted immigration to the country in April - and amid rumors that advanced the measure announced Monday - business leaders expressed their discontent, alleging that an action that restricts the entry of foreign workers would be counterproductive to the economic recovery.
BSA | The Software Alliance, which represents Microsoft, IBM and Adobe (among other companies), said in a statement Monday that it was "disappointed" by the move.
"These limitations on accessing foreign talent are ultimately going to hurt the American economy," BSA wrote.
