BSA Applauds Enactment of Tennessee’s Information Protection Act

WASHINGTON – May 15, 2023 – BSA | The Software Alliance welcomes the enactment of Tennessee’s Information Protection Act. Matthew Lenz, Senior Director of State Advocacy at BSA | The Software Alliance, released the following statement.

“BSA welcomes the enactment of the Tennessee Information Protection Act, which provides Tennesseans with strong privacy protections that give consumers clarity and confidence in how their data is used and protected.

Tennessee’s Information Protection Act follows the model established in other state consumer privacy laws, including clearly recognizing the distinct roles and obligations of controllers and processors of consumer data. Creating strong and clear obligations to safeguard personal consumer data helps companies better provide products and services to their customers.

As state legislatures continue enacting legislation, BSA will continue to engage with policymakers to emphasize the importance of comprehensive privacy legislation. BSA looks forward to building on this momentum by working at both the state and federal levels to advance comprehensive privacy protections.”
