BSA Concerned Brexit Vote Causes More Uncertainty around Data Flows

BRUSSELS - January 15, 2019 - Following today’s Brexit vote in the UK’s House of Commons, Thomas Boué, Director General -EMEA, made the following statement:

“The outcome of the vote creates more uncertainty around Brexit and its impact, especially regarding smooth and secure data flows, which underpin the economy on both sides of the Channel and are critical to the future growth of the 21st century economy. In the absence of a transition period, in which the UK will try and obtain an adequacy decision from the European Commission, entities operating across the Channel will face significant challenges to have legal alternative transfer mechanisms to transfer personal information in and out of the UK in place from day one."
