BSA: EU-Brazil Adequacy Decision Enables Responsible Data Transfers
WASHINGTON — Business Software Alliance Senior Vice President of Global Policy Aaron Cooper issued the following statement on the European Union and Brazil’s agreement on mutual adequacy decisions:
“The Business Software Alliance welcomes the European Union and Brazil’s agreement on mutual adequacy decisions, a significant step toward enabling trusted cross-border data flows between two major economies. The ability to move data responsibly across borders is foundational to digital trade and supports innovation, competitiveness, and growth across industries—from manufacturing and finance to health care and logistics. The adequacy decisions provide legal certainty for companies while preserving strong protections for Brazilians and Europeans alike. This agreement between the EU and Brazil also serve as a model for constructive engagement across governments to advance high-standard digital trade frameworks that unlock economic opportunity while maintaining robust privacy and data protection safeguards.”
