BSA Expands State Advocacy Program With Hiring of Abigail Wilson
WASHINGTON – January 21, 2021 – BSA | The Software Alliance today welcomes Abigail Wilson as its new Manager of State Advocacy. In this Colorado-based role, Abigail will monitor, analyze, and report on state legislative issues as well as assist in the strategic engagement efforts with elected officials related to BSA members’ priority policy issues. In addition, she will play a critical role in helping to build and maintain BSA’s brand and relationships with key legislators in state capitals around the country.
“Last year, BSA launched its state advocacy program, and I’m pleased that we’re now expanding that work by adding Abigail to our team,” said Victoria Espinel, President and CEO of BSA | The Software Alliance. “States are moving forward on issues that deeply impact the software industry, including COVID-19 response and recovery, data privacy legislation, and modernizing state IT infrastructure. Abigail’s expertise will be extremely valuable as BSA continues to serve as a trusted advisor to policymakers crafting legislation on these issues.”
State policymakers have a lot of work ahead of them as they navigate complex tech policy issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. BSA is eager to work alongside legislators and staff to address issues that impact Americans in every state in the country. That includes finding policy solutions to foster inclusive economic recovery, protect consumer data, and equip local governments with the tools they need to serve citizens and protect against cyberattacks.
Prior to joining BSA, Abigail served as the Advocacy & Public Policy Manager at the International Interior Design Association, where she led legislative strategy and lobbyist management with active legislation in six states and built relationships with existing and new stakeholders. Previously, Abigail held the role of Special Project Assistant at the Chicago Park District, where she managed stakeholder relationships with government agencies and NGOs and assisted with grant reporting and applications. Abigail holds a Masters of Public Policy from Loyola University Chicago in Chicago, IL and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY.
