BSA: Extension of CO AI Act Can Yield More Workable Law
Business Software Alliance (BSA) Director of Policy Meghan Pensyl issued the following statement following actions by the Colorado Senate to extend the deadline for enforcement of its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act until June in lieu of pursuing changes to the law during a special legislative session:
"The amendment passed by the Colorado Senate (L.037) to delay enforcement of the Colorado AI Act is a constructive step that affords stakeholders the opportunity to work together to get the state’s approach to AI policy right.
The proposed deal that had been circulated during the Colorado legislature’s special session fell short. Colorado now has an opportunity to craft clearer, more practical rules for high-risk AI that build public trust in technology and support AI adoption across the economy.
BSA has worked for years to develop constructive, solutions-oriented proposals for how to establish safeguards for high-risk AI systems and ensure AI is developed and used responsibly. We look forward to working with Senate Majority Leader Rodriguez and other state leaders to deliver a workable outcome by June."
