BSA: Next Congress Can Tackle Major Tech Issues
WASHINGTON — Business Software Alliance CEO Victoria Espinel issued the following statement following the conclusion of the 2026 midterm elections in the United States:
"The Business Software Alliance congratulates the newly elected and reelected members of the House and Senate. The next Congress has important work ahead on technology policy.
The next Congress will face consequential questions about technology's impact on jobs, security, and daily life. BSA will work with leaders in both parties to advance practical and consistent national technology laws that set clear expectations for businesses, build trust in technology, and strengthen US global competitiveness through responsible AI adoption across the economy.
BSA’s AI priorities include prioritizing frontier AI security capabilities for trusted cybersecurity defenders, advancing risk-based governance for high-risk AI uses, supporting model choice, securing and controlling AI agents, and preparing workers for an AI-enabled economy. AI policy can build on the robust privacy, security, and data governance practices enterprise software companies already apply to the trusted systems businesses rely on every day.
BSA will also prioritize modernizing government technology procurement so agencies can adopt secure, effective tools and better serve the public. We will continue to support a national consumer privacy law and US leadership in international technology cooperation and standards development. And we intend to be a steadfast voice for constructive and solutions-oriented technology policy into the next Congress and beyond."
