BSA on Bipartisan Great American AI Act
WASHINGTON – BSA Senior Vice President of US Government Relations Craig Albright made the following statement responding to the discussion draft of the Great American AI Act proposed by Reps. Jay Obernolte (R-CA) and Lori Trahan (D-MA):
"The Great American AI Act is a credible and substantive effort by Representatives Jay Obernolte and Lori Trahan to advance frontier AI model safety and strengthen public trust in AI. This first draft initiates an important conversation in Washington and can serve as a strong basis for further bipartisan work.
The bill builds on areas of growing consensus by strengthening CAISI’s mission and expertise, advancing workforce development and R&D initiatives, promoting international coordination on AI safety, and restoring the important security information-sharing framework previously enabled by the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015.
As lawmakers gather feedback on the legislation, BSA looks forward to sharing input on provisions related to model definitions, regulatory thresholds, and auditing and reporting requirements. We welcome the opportunity to work with the bill's sponsors and thank them for their bipartisan leadership in advancing legislation that can support AI adoption in industries across the economy."
