BSA Opposes Proposed Amendment to CO AI Law
Business Software Alliance Director of Policy Meghan Pensyl issued the following statement regarding a pending amendment to the Colorado AI Act that may receive consideration during a special legislative session this week:
"The Business Software Alliance (BSA) opposes the proposed amendment to Colorado SB 4 that fails to achieve needed improvements to artificial intelligence rules in the state.
Rather than simplify Colorado’s rules for high-risk AI, the amendment set for consideration by the Colorado Senate today would extend the state’s regulation beyond AI to many types of technology, inject uncertainty into compliance obligations under the state’s law, and is ultimately unworkable in practice.
BSA appreciates the work by many stakeholders over the past year to seek improvements to the Colorado AI Act, but SB 4 falls short of that goal. Rather than rush consideration of amendments during a special legislative session, Colorado leaders should take the time to get the policy right."
