BSA Praises Announcement with Mexico, Pushes for Clear Rules on Data Transfers
WASHINGTON – August 27, 2018 – BSA | The Software Alliance welcomes today’s announcement in connection with the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) negotiations, and looks forward to reviewing the agreement upon the conclusion of the negotiations among Canada, Mexico, and the United States. BSA supports a 21st century agreement that enhances North America’s global leadership position in software. BSA urges the negotiating parties to agree to clear, binding, and forward-looking provisions that ensure that data can flow seamlessly across borders and that provide space for new software innovations to emerge in the future. BSA also underscores the importance of strict prohibitions on market access barriers to software, on any form of discrimination against software, and on disclosure requirements for proprietary source code or algorithms.
