BSA Raises Concerns Regarding Expansive California AB 2013
WASHINGTON – BSA Senior Director of State Advocacy Heather Curry issued the following statement regarding AB 2013, legislation that passed the California legislature and addresses the training of generative AI systems:
“BSA shares the goal of building artificial intelligence (AI) transparency, as outlined in BSA’s solutions to build trust in AI.
As currently written, AB 2013 would essentially require developers of generative AI systems to post detailed documentation about how their systems are trained, potentially requiring companies to disclose trade secrets or confidential information. The legislation could also disincentivize companies to train systems on a broader set of data, which helps to protect against bias, and impose reporting requirements that go well beyond current laws, including those in the European Union, as BSA wrote in early August.
We continue to engage with leaders in California to advocate AI rules that build trust and are workable in practice.”
