BSA Weighs in on Digital Trade in US-EU Negotiations
WASHINGTON – December 10, 2018 – BSA | The Software Alliance urged the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) to prioritize digital trade in its upcoming US-EU trade negotiations, in comments submitted today. Digital trade provisions would enhance legal certainty for US and EU businesses by ensuring the free flow of data across borders and protecting intellectual property. In its comments, BSA argued this presents an enormous opportunity for the United States and the European Union to solidify a strong transatlantic partnership and build off the digital trade provisions from previous free trade agreements, including the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement and the EU-Mexico Agreement. Beyond that, it also brings the United States one step closer to creating an international consensus on data. BSA looks forward to working with the USTR on the US-EU and other trade negotiations to ensure the inclusion of digital trade.
