BSA Welcomes House Consideration of AI Bills
WASHINGTON – BSA | The Software Alliance Senior Vice President of Government Relations Craig Albright issued the following statement regarding the expected consideration of several key artificial intelligence (AI) bills by the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee:
“BSA commends Chairman Lucas and Ranking Member Lofgren for their efforts to usher along key artificial intelligence legislation in the House. Workable national technology laws help build trust in AI and more widely spread its benefit across communities and the economy.
Legislation like the CREATE AI Act can help spur research and innovation into artificial intelligence by establishing the National Artificial Research Resource (NAIRR). The Artificial Intelligence Development Practices Act recognizes the importance of the NIST Risk Management Framework to develop guidelines and address AI risk tolerances. Other bills up for consideration would help build an AI-ready workforce of the future, advance AI safety and testing, and ensure that entrepreneurs and small businesses can fully access the benefits of AI.
Congress has an opportunity this year to address some important AI policy issues, and the House Science and Technology Committee’s efforts help to advance the legislative debate. BSA continues to urge Congress to advance workable laws that build trust in responsibly developed AI and will continue to engage with lawmakers in both parties to assist them with these efforts.”
