BSA Welcomes Ratification of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement
BRUSSELS – April 28, 2021 – BSA | The Software Alliance offered the following statement on today’s ratification of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) by the European Parliament.
“The UK and the EU are two of the most open, innovative, and connected economies in the world. BSA welcomes the TCA, particularly its chapter on digital trade, which will help safeguard the responsible movement of data between both long-standing partners and encourage economic growth,” said Isabelle Roccia, Director, Policy – EMEA at BSA.
“The TCA’s digital trade provisions commit the EU and the UK to having data transfer mechanisms in place, banning customs duties on electronic transmissions, and cooperating on regulatory issues, including emerging technologies. Continued collaboration between Brussels and London in these areas sends a strong and positive signal for multilateral discussions on e-commerce currently underway at the WTO,” Roccia added. “As global recovery efforts continue, ensuring trust in the digital economy and responsible international data flows could not be more important.”
